Crawford, Rendon, Farrington, Hoitenga, Wozniak, Liberati, Brenda Carter, Cynthia Johnson. Nays: None. Pass: None. The Chair laid before the committee a presentation on Kinship Care. Dr. Sharon McDaniel, President and Chief Executive Officer of A Second Chance, Incorporated, explained the importance of placement of children with their relatives, or family friends when they are unable to remain in the homes of their birth parents. A copy of her handout is attached. Questions followed. Dr. Joo Yeunn Chang, Senior Deputy Director for the Children's Service Agency at the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, joined Dr. McDaniel to address questions from committee members. Deb Frisbee, a Parent Consultant at Adoption Family Support Network, showed a video from Jan Wagner, a kinship caregiver from Mason County and the recipient of the Casey Family Programs 2019 Excellence Award, and briefed the committee members about her program. Questions and discussion followed. Brooke VanProoyen, Coordinator of the Adoption Family Support Network and a former relative placement child, briefed the committee further about various child placement issues. Questions followed. Lisa Grodsky, Community Services Coordinator for the Oakland Livingston Human Services Agency, briefed the members on her area's child placement conditions. Questions and discussion followed. Tina Wasilewski and Anita Rothert, Parent Education Specialist, from the Guidance Center in Dearborn, Michigan, briefed the committee on their program.
