CALLEY CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Thursday, September 29, 2022 10:30 AM Room 352, House Appropriations, State Capitol Building The House Committee on Rules and Competitiveness was called to order by Chair Calley. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Calley, Bellino, Wendzel, Damoose, Posthumus, Harris, Anthony, Hertel, Sneller, Kuppa. Absent: Rep. Clements. Excused: None. Representatives Bellino, Wendzel, Damoose, Posthumus, Anthony, Hertel, Sneller and Kuppa joined the committee remotely. The Chair laid SB 712 before the committee: SB 712 (Sen. MacDonald) A bill to amend 1956 PA 218, entitled "The insurance code of 1956," by amending section 8182 (MCL 500.8182), as added by 1990 PA 1, and by adding sections 8199b and 8199c. Allison Koppel, representing the American Fraternal Alliance, testified in support of SB 712. The following people submitted a card in support of SB 712, but did not wish to speak: Todd Martin, representing the American Fraternal Alliance. Craig Van Dyke, representing the American Fraternal Alliance. Joseph Sullivan, representing the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services. The Chair laid HB 6360 before the committee: HB 6360 (Rep. Yaroch) A bill to amend 1969 PA 317, entitled "Worker's disability compensation act of 1969," by amending section 405 (MCL 418.405), as amended by 2021 PA 129. Representative Yaroch testified in support of HB 6360. Questions and discussion followed. The following people submitted a card in support of HB 6360, but did not wish to speak: Mike Burke, representing the Michigan State Firemen's Association. Emily Eggenberger, representing Representative Whitsett, testified in support of HB 6416. Hassan Beydoun, senior adviser and counsel for Mayor Duggan, testified in support of HB 6416. The Chair laid before the committee a preview presentation from the House School Safety Task Force. Representative Meerman, Representative VanSingel and Representative Breen gave a presentation on the House School Safety Task Force. Questions and discussion followed.
