- **DRAFT** COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES April 10, 2023 A joint meeting of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on PreK-12 and House Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on School Aid and Education was scheduled for Monday, April 10, 2023, at 5:30 p.m., in the Mumford High School 17525 Wyoming Ave. Detroit, MI 48221. The Chair called the meeting to order at 5:34 p.m.. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Camilleri, Sen.(s) Polehanki, Hertel, Klinefelt, Cavanagh and Albert, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Cavanagh, supported by Sen. Camilleri, to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen. Theis was excused from the meeting. Senator Theis participated in the meeting via Zoom. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Polehanki, supported by Sen. Camilleri, to adopt the meeting minutes from March 6, 2023. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding teacher recruitment and retention Luis Solano, Deputy Superintendent Detroit Public Schools Community District Deyna People, Chris Spencer, Brian Peck, and Jerry Lawrence, Teach For America Kathi Martin, Marcus Walton, Jason Posey, and Robin Jennings, American Federation of Teachers Hezekiah Smith, Shantineth Lowe, Perriel Pace, Kaylee Walker, and Arlyssa Heard, 482 Forward Dr. Tim Wood, former VP of Grand Valley State University Chisteen Christiansen, parent There being no further business before the committee, the Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Klinefelt, supported by Sen. Camilleri, to adjourn the committee at 7:29 p.m.Without objection, the committee was adjourned. Page 1 of 1
