PAMELA HORNBERGER CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, February 9, 2021 12:00 PM Senate Hearing Room, Ground Floor, Boji Tower The House Committee on Education was meeting jointly with the Senate Committee on Education and Career Readiness. The House Committee on Education was called to order by Chair Hornberger. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Hornberger, Paquette, Green, Markkanen, O'Malley, Beeler, Damoose, Posthumus, Camilleri, Brenda Carter, Koleszar, Shannon, Stone. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative Shannon joined the meeting remotely. Representative O'Malley moved to adopt the meeting minutes from February 2, 2021. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. Chair Theis laid the following before the committee: Discussion regarding the impact of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services' restrictions on student athletics. Elizabeth Hertel, Director of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services testified before the committee. Questions and discussion followed. Dr. Nikolai Vitti, the Detroit Public Schools Superintendent, testified before the committee. Questions and discussion followed. John Thompson, representing the Michigan High School Athletic Association, testified before the committee. Questions and discussion followed. There being no further business before the committee, Rep. Pamela Hornberger adjourned the meeting at 1:17 PM.
