HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION REP. PAMELA HORNBERGER CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, March 2, 2021 10:30 AM Room 352, House Appropriations, State Capitol Building The House Committee on Education was called to order by Chair Hornberger. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Hornberger, Paquette, Green, Markkanen, O'Malley, Beeler, Damoose, Posthumus, Camilleri, Brenda Carter, Koleszar, Shannon, Stone. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative Shannon joined the meeting virtually. Representative Posthumus moved to adopt the meeting minutes from February 9, 2021. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4055 and HB 4056 before the committee: HB 4055 (Rep. Anthony) A bill to amend 1964 PA 208, entitled "An act to grant scholarships to students enrolled in postsecondary education institutions; and to provide for the administration of the scholarship program," by amending sections 3 and 4 (MCL 390.973 and 390.974), section 3 as amended by 1980 PA 500 and section 4 as amended by 1986 PA 270. HB 4056 (Rep. VanSingel) A bill to amend 1966 PA 313, entitled "An act to award tuition grants to resident students enrolled in independent nonprofit institutions of higher learning; and to make an appropriation therefor," by amending section 3 (MCL 390.993), as amended by 1980 PA 503. Representative O'Malley moved to adopt substitute (H-1) to HB 4055. The motion prevailed 10-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Hornberger, Paquette, Markkanen, O'Malley, Beeler, Damoose, Posthumus, Brenda Carter, Koleszar, Stone. Nays: None. Pass: None. Representative VanSingel and Representative Anthony, testified in support of HB 4055 and HB 4056. Questions and discussion followed. Reilly) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled "The revised school code," by amending section 1279g (MCL 380.1279g), as amended by 2016 PA 170, and by adding section 1279i. The Chair handed the gavel over to Vice-Chair Paquette at 9:08 a.m Representative Hornberger and Representative Reilly, testified in support of HB 4037 and HB 4038. Questions and discussion followed. At 9:25 AM, the Majority Vice Chair Brad Paquette laid the committee at ease. At 9:26 AM, the Chair called the committee back to order. Representative Hornberger returned to the Chair.
