GRAHAM FILLER CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, May 14, 2019 9:00 AM Room 519, House Office Building The House Standing Committee on Judiciary was called to order by the Chair Filler. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Filler, LaFave, Farrington, Howell, S. Johnson, Rendon, Berman, Wozniak, LaGrand, Guerra, Elder, Yancey, Bolden. Absent/Excused: None. Representative LaFave moved to adopt the meeting minutes from May 7, 2019. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid SB 112 before the committee: SB 112 (Sen. Lucido) A bill to amend 1961 PA 236, entitled “Revised judicature act of 1961, “by amending section 2918 (MCL 600.2918), as amended by 2014 PA 223. Anthony) A bill to create the office of the higher education sexual assault prevention, advocacy, and resource officer within the department of civil rights; to prescribe the powers and duties of the office, the advocacy officer, and certain state governmental officers and entities; and to provide for an appropriation. HB 4381 (Rep. Hoadley) A bill to create the campus sexual assault response improvement plan and grant act; to require certain reporting; to create the campus sexual assault response improvement grant fund; to provide for the use of the fund; and to provide for the powers and duties of certain state officers and entities. HB 4382 (Rep. Clemente) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled “The revised school code, “by amending section 1230b (MCL 380.1230b), as added by 1996 PA 189, and by adding section 1230i. Representative Clemente, Representative Anthony, and Julie Vogel from Representative Hoadley’s office, testified together in support of the bills. Questions and discussion followed. Jennifer Smith, representing the Michigan Association of School Boards, testified in opposition to HB 4382. At 10:16 AM, the Chair laid the committee at ease.
