BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-1725 FAX: (517) 373-0741 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES June 6, 2019 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Health Policy and Human Services was scheduled for Thursday, June 6, 2019, at 1:00 p.m., in the 1100 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding SB 248 (Sen. Johnson). 2. Testimony regarding SB 254 (Sen. Zorn). 3. Presentation by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services regarding MI Health Link. 4. Presentation by the Health Care Association of Michigan regarding MI Health Link. 5. Presentation by the Michigan Association of Health Plans regarding MI Health Link. The Chair called the meeting to order at 1:00 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair VanderWall, Sens. Bizon, Johnson, LaSata, MacDonald, Theis, Brinks, Hertel, and Santana, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Bizon to adopt the meeting minutes from May 23, 2019. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited Sen. Johnson to summarize SB 248 and SB 254. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 248 and SB 254: Dr. Brad Uren and Christin Nohner, Michigan State Medical Society – Oppose The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 248: Amy Drumm, Michigan Retailers Association – Support Joel Kurzman, National Association of Chain Drug Stores – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 248: Page 1 of 2 Nicole Nystrom, CVS Health – Support Angela Hoover, Walgreens – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 254: Erik Hingst, Walmart – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 248 and SB 254: Gabe Basso, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan – Support Christine Shearer, Michigan Association of Health Plans – Support Justin Fisher, Michigan Psychiatric Association – Oppose Matt Black, Michigan Academy of Family Physicians – Oppose The Chair invited Brian Barrie and Karla Ruest, from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, to give a presentation regarding MI Health Link. The Chair invited Melissa Samuel, CEO of the Health Care Association of Michigan, and Meghann Keit, of the Michigan County Medical Care Facilities Council, and Season Marinich, of Bronson Commons, give a presentation regarding MI Health Link. The Chair invited Dominick Pallone and Tiffany Stone, of the Michigan Association of Health Plans, to give a presentation regarding MI Health Link. Due to time constraints, the following individuals were not able to testify regarding MI Health Link: Dalton Herbel, LeadingAge Michigan The Chair made a motion to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen. Wojno was excused from the meeting. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
