BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7670 FAX: (517) 373-5958 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES October 21, 2020 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety was scheduled for Wednesday, October 21, 2020, at 12:30 p.m., in Room 403, Capitol Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding HB 4700 (Rep. Whiteford). 2. Testimony regarding HB 5137 (Rep. Alexander). 3. Testimony regarding HB 5138 (Rep. Tate). 4. Testimony regarding HB 5299 (Rep. LaGrand). 5. Testimony regarding SB 1193 (Sen. LaSata). 6. Testimony regarding SB 1194 (Sen. Theis). 7. Testimony regarding SB 1195 (Sen. Wojno). The Chair called the meeting to order at 12:30 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Lucido, Sen (s). VanderWall, Barrett, Johnson, Runestad, Chang and Irwin, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. VanderWall to adopt the meeting minutes from October 13, 2020. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited Rep. Whiteford to summarize HB 4700. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding HB 4700: Kyle Kaminski, Michigan Department of Corrections – Support The cards were read of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding HB 4700: Mental Health Association of Michigan – Support Greg Boyd, Michigan Partners in Crisis – Support Mark McWilliams, Disability Rights Michigan – Support The Chair invited Rep. Alexander to summarize HB's 5137, 5138 and 5299. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding HB's 5137, 5138 and 5299: Mike Hirst, Andy's Angels – Support Jerry Jarzynka, Jackson County Prosecutor - Support The cards were read of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding HB's 5137-5138: Sgt. Nicole McGhee, Michigan State Police – Support The Chair invited Sen. Theis and Sen. Wojno to summarize SB's 1193-1195.
