BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-2420 FAX: (517) 373-2764 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES February 23, 2021 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Education and Career Readiness was scheduled for Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at 12:00 noon, in the 403 Room of the Capitol Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. A hearing to consider the negative impacts of COVID-imposed virtual learning. The Chair called the meeting to order at 12:00 noon She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Horn, Runestad, Daley and Polehanki, a quorum was present. The Chair made a motion to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen. Geiss was excused from the meeting. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Horn to adopt the meeting minutes from February 9, 2021 and February 16, 2021. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding the negative impacts of COVID- imposed virtual learning: Dr. Jenny Radesky, Michigan Medicine – No Position Dr. Emily Stoneman, Michigan Medicine – No Position Dr. Elizabeth Hill, Michigan Medicine – No Position Matthew Hack, Allegan High School – No Position Kelly Aquino, Parent – No Position Krysten Salla, Parent – No Position Ashley Daeschlein, Parent – No Position Michael Peters, Parent – No Position Tom Parrelly, Parent – No Position Jessica Mathiak, Parent – No Position Venus Harris, Parent – No Position Rob Seale, Parent – No Position Nicholas Bagley, Parent – No Position There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee at 1:27 p.m. Without objection, the committee was adjourned.
