BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-6920 FAX: (517) 373-2751 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES February 25, 2021 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety was scheduled for Thursday, February 25, 2021, at 9:00 a.m., in Room 403 of the Capitol Building. The agenda summary is as follow: 1. Adoption of the 2021-2022 Committee Rules. 2. Presentation on the Michigan Jails Task Force 2021 Priorities. The Chair called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Victory, Sen.(s) VanderWall, Johnson, Runestad, Chang and Irwin, a quorum was present. The Chair summarized the agenda for the committee, and invited The Honorable Judge Thomas P. Boyd to give a presentation on the Michigan Jails Task Force 2021 Priorities. At 9:19 a.m., Sen. Barrett entered the meeting. The Chair invited Diana Prichard, Community Engagement Director for Americans for Prosperity to give additional comments relative to the presentation via Zoom. The Chair invited Kimberly Buddin, Policy Counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan to give additional comments relative to the presentation via Zoom. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Irwin to adopt the committee rules. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Victory, Sen.(s) VanderWall, Barrett, Johnson, Runestad, Chang and Irwin Nays: None The motion prevailed and the rules were adopted. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee. Without objection, the committee was adjourned at 9:51 a.m. Date adopted by committee: 03/04/2021
