BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7708 FAX: (517) 373-1450 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES November 9, 2021 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Energy and Technology was scheduled for Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at 2:00 p.m., in the Senate Hearing Room, Ground Floor, Boji Tower. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported HB 5026 (Rep. Julie Calley) with recommendation and immediate effect. The Chair called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m.. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Lauwers, Sen.(s) Horn, LaSata, Nesbitt, Barrett, Bumstead, Bizon, McCann, Brinks and Bullock, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Horn to adopt the meeting minutes from November 2, 2021. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. LaSata to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen.(s) Schmidt and McMorrow were excused from the meeting. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding HB 5026: Jennifer Greenberg and Pat Coats, Peninsula Fiber Network – Support The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding HB 5026: Tuscola Co. Board of Commissioners – Support Newago Co. Board of Commissioners – Support Monroe Co. Board of Commissioners – Support Lenawee Co. Board of Commissioners – Support Gogebic Co. Board of Commissioners – Support Eaton Co. Board of Commissioners – Support Clare Co. Board of Commissioners – Support Calhoun Co. Consolidated Dispatch Authority – Support Iron Co. Horn to report HB 5026 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Lauwers, Sen.(s) Horn, LaSata, Nesbitt, Barrett, Bumstead, Bizon, McCann, Brinks, and Bullock. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair made a motion to recommend immediate effect for HB 5026. Without objection, immediate effect was recommended. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
