BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-2406 FAX: (517) 373-5679 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES February 21, 2023 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Housing and Human Services was scheduled for Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at 12:30 p.m., in the Senate Hearing Room of the Boji Tower. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding SB 35 (Sen. Irwin). The Chair called the meeting to order at 12:32 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Irwin, Sen.(s) Santana, Bayer, Shink, Chang, Cherry, Geiss, Lindsey, Hoitenga, and Damoose, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Cherry to adopt the meeting minutes from January 24, 2023. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair made a motion to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen. Cavanagh was excused from the meeting. The Chair summarized SB 35. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 35: Monique Stanton, Michigan League for Public Policy – Support Lew Roubal, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 35: Anna Almanza, Food Bank Council of Michigan – Support Dr. William Dietz, Authority Health Motion Coalition Steering Committee – Support Loretta Bush, Authority Health – Support Lisa Ruby, Michigan Poverty Law Program – Support Tom Hickson, Michigan Catholic Conference – Support Diane Valade, Authority Health Motion Coalition Steering Committee – Support Brain Clark, United Ways of Southeastern Michigan – Support Robert Kennedy, Michigan Community Action – Support Kelly Bidelman, Center for Civil Justice – Support Page 1 of 2 Melina Brann, National Association of Social Workers – Support Leah Bacon, Center for Employment Opportunity – Support There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
