BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7315 FAX: (517) 373-3126 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES March 15, 2023 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Health Policy was scheduled for Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at 12:30 p.m., in the 1100 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Presentations from Community Mental Health. The Chair called the meeting to order at 12:33 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Hertel, Sen.(s) Santana, Wojno, Cherry, Klinefelt, Geiss, Webber, Hauck, Huizenga, and Runestad, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Webber to adopt the meeting minutes from March 8, 2023. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited Alan Bolter, Associate Director of the Community Mental Health Association of Michigan, to give an introduction to the presentations regarding community mental and behavioral health issues. The Chair invited Tricia Polcik, Erin Barbus, and Jessica Huggard, from Centra Wellness, to give a presentation regarding mental and behavioral health issues in their area and services within their organization. The Chair invited Jen McCarty, from the Genesee Health System, to give a presentation regarding behavioral health issues and care services in their community. The Chair invited Sara Lurie, from the CMH Authority of Clinton-Eaton-Ingham Counties, to give a presentation regarding their service structure, workforce issues, and possible solutions. The Chair invited Maribeth Leonard, CEO of Lifeways CMH, to give a presentation regarding workforce challenges of public mental health systems and possible solutions. The Chair invite Dana Lasenby, CEO, and Kim Flowers, Chief Clinical Officer, from the Oakland Community Health Network, to give a presentation regarding an overview of their behavioral health crisis services and how they interact with their community partners.
