BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7346 FAX: (517) 373-9320 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES March 16, 2023 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Civil Rights, Judiciary, and Public Safety was scheduled for Thursday, March 16, 2023, at 12:00 p.m., in the 1300 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding SB 56 (Sen. Chang). 2. Testimony regarding SB 59 (Sen. Cherry). The Chair called the meeting to order at 2:17 p.m. She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Chang, Sen.(s) Wojno, Irwin, Runestad and Johnson, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Wojno to adopt the meeting minutes from March 15, 2023. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair moved to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen.(s) Shink and Santana were excused from the meeting. The Chair brought up SB 56, and summarized the bill. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 56: Marshall Hunt, Accounting Aid Society & MI Association of CPAs Member – Support Bob Doyle, President & CEO MI Association of CPAs - Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to present testimony regarding SB 56: Trooper Kristina Droste, Michigan State Police – Support Merissa Kovach, ACLU Michigan - Support The Chair brought up SB 59, and invited Sen. Cherry to summarize the bill. Page 1 of 2 The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 59: Taylor Ridderbusch, Legislative Liaison, MI Department of Natural Resources – Support Capt. Dave Malloch, MI Department of Natural Resources – Support Sgt. Damon Owens, MI Department of Natural Resources - Support There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
