BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7315 FAX: (517) 373-3126 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES March 22, 2023 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Health Policy was scheduled for Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at 12:30 p.m., in the 1100 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Presentations regarding Maternal and Infant Health. The Chair called the meeting to order at 12:32 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Hertel, Sen.(s) Santana, Wojno, Cherry, Klinefelt, Geiss, Webber, Hauck, Huizenga, and Runestad, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Wojno to adopt the meeting minutes from March 15, 2023. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited Dawn Shanafelt, Director of both the Division of Maternal and Infant Health and the Title V Maternal Child Health Block Grant Program for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, to give a presentation regarding advancing birth equity. The Chair invited Dr. Jennifer Torres, Manager of the Office of Women's Health and Birth Equity at the Michigan Public Health Institute, to give a presentation regarding community-based work to address maternal and infant outcomes. The Chair invited Amy Zaagman, Executive Director of the Michigan Council for Maternal and Child Health, to give a presentation regarding policies that can support more equitable birth outcomes. The Chair invited Colin Ford, CEO of the Michigan Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and Dr. Dennis Cunningham, Infectious Disease Specialist at the Henry Ford Health System, to give a presentation regarding specific infant and toddler policy challenges, including vaccine preventable diseases. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
