BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-2420 FAX: (517) 373-2764 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES December 7, 2021 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Education and Career Readiness was scheduled for Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at 12:00 noon, in the 1300 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding HB 4293 (Rep. Damoose). 2. Testimony regarding HB 4294 (Rep. Paquette). The Chair called the meeting to order at 12:00 noon. She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Theis, Sen.(s) Horn, Runestad, Daley, Huizenga, Polehanki and Geiss, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Horn to adopt the meeting minutes from November 30, 2021. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding HB 4293 and HB 4294: Rep. Brad Paquette – Support Bob Kefgen, Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals – Opposition Chris Glass, Education Advocates of West Michigan – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding HB 4293 and HB 4294: Andy Neumann, Michigan Education Association – Opposition Athena Antonis, Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators – Support Jen Smith, Michigan Association of School Boards – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding HB 4293: Todd Tennis, AFT Michigan – Opposition The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding HB 4294: Alicia Urbain, MAPSA – Support There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
