BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-6920 FAX: (517) 373-2751 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES June 10, 2021 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety was scheduled for Thursday, June 10, 2021, at 8:30 a.m., in the 1100 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follow: 1. Testimony regarding SB 473 (Sen. Victory). 2. Testimony regarding SB 474 (Sen. Moss). 3. Testimony regarding SB 475 (Sen. Horn). 4. Testimony regarding SB 476 (Sen. Ananich). 5. Testimony regarding SB 477 (Sen. Hollier). 6. Testimony regarding SB 478 (Sen. Runestad). 7. Testimony regarding SB 479 (Sen. Geiss). 8. Testimony regarding SB 480 (Sen. Johnson). 9. Testimony regarding SB 481 (Sen. Chang). 10. Testimony regarding SB 482 (Sen. Irwin). 11. Testimony regarding SB 483 (Sen. MacDonald). 12. Testimony regarding SB 484 (Sen. Bullock). 13. Testimony regarding SB 375 (Sen. Santana). The Chair called the meeting to order at 8:33 a.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Victory, Sen.(s) VanderWall, Johnson, Runestad, Chang and Irwin, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. VanderWall to adopt the meeting minutes from June 8, 2021. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair brought up SB's 473 – 484, SB 375, and made opening remarks to the committee. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB's 473-483 and SB 375: Ralph Godbee, Triumph Church / Retired Detroit Chief of Police – Support The Chair invited Kym Worthy, Wayne County Prosecutor, via Zoom, to give general comments relative to the bill package. The Chair moved to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen. Barrett was excused from the meeting. At 9:21 a.m., the Chair left the committee for another meeting. The Vice Chair continued receiving testimony regarding SB's 473-483 and SB 375: Jessica Yount, The Freed Peoples, via Zoom – Support Carina Freeman, The Freed Peoples – Support SB 479 Cciara Mosella, The Freed Peoples – Support SB 479 Teferi Brent, Dignity of Detroit – Support Darrel Woods, Dignity of Detroit – Support Ryder Rodriguez, Self – Neutral SB's 473-482 and SB 484 Ryder Rodriguez, Self – Support SB 483 Due to senate session the following cards of those individuals not wishing to present testimony regarding SB's 473-483 and SB 375 were considered read in for the record: Kevin Coney, Self – Support Diana Prichard, Americans for Prosperity – Neutral SB 484, 477 and 476 Diana Prichard, Americans for Prosperity – Support SB's 481-483, 473-475, 478, 480 Alex Rossman, MI League for Public Policy – Support SB's 473-484, SB 375 Due to senate session the following individuals were unable to testify regarding SB's 473 – 483 and SB 375: Jody White, Self – No Position Shannon Tanis, The DeJour People on Michigan - Oppose The Vice Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
