I just wanted to recognize the work that was done on this bill between us here in the Senate as well as the work done in the House. There is an area of particular importance in my district. There were some devastating tornados that came through in Shiawassee County a couple of months ago. We’ve worked diligently to get some restoration of local funds that were exhausted through that process. The first responders in Shiawassee County throughout the entire disaster zone area worked tirelessly to make sure that there were no fatalities and that there were no serious injuries as a result of this tornado. There was a tremendous amount of property damage that resulted though. These funds that are within this bill will restore some of the local government funding that was used that exhausted and depleted their local government budgets responding to this disaster. I want to thank Representative Frederick for his work in the House of Representatives working collaboratively to get these funds into this bill and we’re happy that this relief will be granted to the people of Shiawassee County who have suffered quite a bit through this damage.
