   Senator Hoitenga asked and was granted unanimous consent to make a statement and moved that the statement be printed in the Journal. The motion prevailed. Senator Hoitenga’s statement is as follows: Today I rise to urge your support for a resolution commemorating April 18 as Lineman Appreciation Day. As some of you may have heard, over the course of the last few weeks, northern Michigan was devastated by a catastrophic storm, an ice storm that wreaked havoc on our infrastructure grid leaving 12 Michigan counties in a state of emergency and thousands of families in the dark. The storm not only highlighted the power of nature and the fragility of our infrastructure, but it spotlighted the bravery of our linemen. In the face of extreme weather and treacherous conditions, these linemen and women answered the call with a focus on one thing: turning our lights on as quickly and safely as possible. The relentless commitment and skill during a crisis exemplify the very best of public service. But linemen don’t just work during emergencies. Every day, they maintain the electrical grid that powers our lives, our homes, our schools, and hospitals. I urge you support me in declaring April 18 as Lineman Appreciation Day to recognize the vital role they play in keeping our communities safe and connected.
