   Not Voting—0 In The Chair: President The Senate agreed to the title of the bill. Senator Santana asked and was granted unanimous consent to make a statement and moved that the statement be printed in the Journal. The motion prevailed. Senator Santana’s statement is as follows: I just wanted to rise and kind of really level-set the conversation around our Corrections Department and as you all know, you all have maybe received calls to your office from loved ones concerned about their loved ones who are locked up in our corrections facilities here in the state of Michigan. I’ve been working on this budget for several years and working on corrections for several years here in the House as well as in the Senate. I think this is an opportunity through this policy for us to provide transparency as well as provide the tools necessary for the ombudsman’s office to actually be able to perform their job at a level that helps to provide transparency by offering opportunities for professionals to be able to provide analysis and also input into some of the decision making for some of the inquiries that come into the corrections facilities. This is great policy and I definitely hope to have unanimous support from this body.
