In The Chair: Geiss
The Senate agreed to the title of the bill.
Senator Irwin asked and was granted unanimous consent to make a statement and moved that the statement be printed in the Journal.
The motion prevailed.
Senator Irwin’s statement is as follows:
I rise to speak in favor of my legislation to fix this loophole in the Guardianship Assistance Program. This bill, together with the other bill in the package, will ensure that guardianships that are ordered by tribal courts and by courts out of Michigan are afforded the same sort of support; the families that take on these children are afforded the same sort of financial support from the state that they would otherwise be eligible if they were to stay as foster parents or if the guardianship was effectuated by a state court. So this bill just establishes fairness for our tribal communities and I really appreciate the support on the bill.
The following bill was read a third time:
Senate Bill No. 87, entitled
A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled “Michigan vehicle code,” by amending section 234 (MCL 257.234), as amended by 2002 PA 552.
