Context text: Not Voting—0 In The Chair: President The Senate agreed to the title of the bill. Senator Daley asked and was granted unanimous consent to make a statement and moved that the statement be printed in the Journal. The motion prevailed. Senator Daley’s statement is as follows: I rise to speak in support of my amendment. My amendment would simply state that any funds raised by the toll on this bridge must be spent on operation of the bridge and cannot be used for some other purpose. The township officials who came before the committee admitted that they have no intention of using this money for a non-bridge purpose, yet these officials will not be in office forever. My amendment would simply put into law what everyone agreed was a good idea, that toll funds raised from the Michigan residents driving over the bridge be used for the maintenance of the bridge and nothing more. Just good policy. The following bill was read a third time: Senate Bill No. 771, entitled A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled “Michigan vehicle code,” by amending section 657a (MCL 257.657a), as amended by 2018 PA 139.
