- a citizen’s right to circulate petitions while still providing a check on efforts that mislead about the contents
of a petition. If someone is asked to sign a petition, the least we can do is make sure they know where the
summary of the policy exists and have direction to review it before adding their signature. And it would
compel the petition sponsors to be responsible for appropriate training, oversight, and monitoring of paid
and volunteer circulators.
Ultimately, a ballot proposal should be able to stand on its own merit instead of relying on dishonesty or
other deceptive tactics for the tools to gain support. I urge a “yes” vote on these commonsense measures.
