    because it is a crisis by every measure. While our traditional public-school students languish in the bottom-ten nationally in just about every key indicator, these bills will do nothing to raise the bar, improve outcomes, empower parents, or make sure kids don’t fall through the cracks. Instead, at 2 o’clock in the morning under the cover of darkness in lame duck, they’re jamming these bills through without a full review of what they’re doing. In the name of transparency? I ask for a “no” vote. The following bill was read a third time: Senate Bill No. 1166, entitled A bill to amend 1846 RS 83, entitled “Of marriage and the solemnization thereof,” by amending section 16 (MCL 551.16), as amended by 2006 PA 419.
