- Representative Markkanen moved to adopt the meeting minutes from May 5, 2022. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. Taylor Ridderbusch, legislative liaison at the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, gave the committee an update on the Blue Lakes Fire in northern Michigan. It was reported around 12:40 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2022, northwest of Atlanta near the Pigeon River Country State Forest. Questions and discussion followed. The Chair laid HB 5902 and HB 5740 before the committee: HB 5902 (Rep. Eisen) A bill to amend 1994 PA 451, entitled "Natural resources and environmental protection act," by amending sections 40102 and 40111a (MCL 324.40102 and 324.40111a), section 40102 as amended by 2015 PA 24 and section 40111a as amended by 2015 PA 265. HB 5740 (Rep. Eisen) A bill to amend 1994 PA 451, entitled "Natural resources and environmental protection act," by amending section 43535 (MCL 324.43535), as amended by 2013 PA 108. Representative Eisen testified in support of HB 5902 and HB 5740. Questions and discussion followed. Justin Tomei and Amy Trotter representing the Michigan United Conservation Clubs testified in opposition to HB 5902 and HB 5740. Questions and discussion followed. Taylor Ridderbusch and Chad Stewart representing the Michigan Department of Natural Resources testified in opposition to HB 5902 and HB 5740. Questions and discussion followed. The Chair laid before the Committee a presentation by Derek Bajema, President and CEO, Michigan Soft Drink Association. Questions and discussion followed. The Chair returned to HB 5902 and HB 5740. Dean Hall representing the Michigan resident testified in opposition to HB 5902 and HB 5740. Janden Miller representing the Michigan Traditional Bowhunters testified in opposition to HB 5902 and HB 5740. Robert Jones representing the Michigan Bowhunters Association testified in opposition to HB 5902 and HB 5740. There being no further business before the committee, Chair Howell adjourned the meeting at 12:00 PM.
