    Representative Markkanen moved to adopt Thursday, at 9:00 a.m., in room 521 of the House Office Building, as the day, time, and location for the regularly scheduled meetings of the House Insurance Committee. The motion prevailed 16-0-0. The motion prevailed 16-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Rendon, Markkanen, Webber, Vaupel, Bellino, Frederick, Hoitenga, LaFave, Berman, Paquette, Wittenberg, Gay-Dagnogo, Lasinski, Sneller, Bolden, Coleman. Nays: None. Pass: None. The Chair stated that the House Insurance Committee will follow Chapter IV, stated in the House Standing Rules, which were adopted on the House Floor. The Chair introduced staff members assigned to work with the Committee and made opening remarks. The Chair invited each member of the committee to introduce themselves. The Chair laid out her expectations for how the committee will run. Chad Arnold, Director of the Office of Policy, Research and Communication, Karin Gyger, Manager of Insurance Policy and Research, Judy Weaver, Director of the Office of Insurance Evaluation, Karen Dennis, Director of the Office of Insurance Rates and Forms, Renee Campbell, Director of the Office of Consumer Services, and Michele Riddering, Director of the Office of Insurance Licensing and Market Conduct, all representing the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services, provided a presentation regarding the Department and reviewed the following topics: the Department’s Mission Statement, Consumer Protection, Who the Department Regulates, How the Department Regulates, The National Association of Insurance Commissioners Model Laws, A Brief History of the Department, Executive Order2013-1, the Office of Consumer Services, What Types of Assistance the Department Can Provide, the Office of Insurance Evaluation, Licensing and Market Conduct, Life and Health, Property and Casualty, Disaster Preparedness, the Department’s Summer Internship Program, Financial Literacy, Anti-Fraud Efforts, Life Insurance and Annuity Locator, and the Department’s Social Media Outreach . Questions and discussion followed. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair adjourned the meeting at 10:05 AM.
