- Representative Berman moved to adopt the meeting minutes from May 21, 2019. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4584, HB 4585, HB 4586 and HB 4652 before the committee: HB 4584 (Rep. Albert) A bill to amend 1966 PA 225, entitled “Carnival-amusement safety act of 1966,"by amending section 2 (MCL 408.652), as amended by 2000 PA 346, and by adding section 7a. HB 4585 (Rep. Albert) A bill to promote compliance with certain health and safety standards by certain fairs and festivals in this state; to establish a fair and festival carnival safety partnership program; to provide for the recognition of fair and festival carnival safety partners; and to provide for the powers and duties of certain state officers and entities. HB 4586 (Rep. Albert) A bill to amend 1966 PA 225, entitled “Carnival-amusement safety act of 1966,"by amending sections 8 and 17 (MCL 408.658 and 408.667), section 8 as amended by 1982 PA 35 and section 17 as amended by 2000 PA 346. HB 4652 (Rep. Albert) A bill to amend 1962 PA 199, entitled “Ski area safety act of 1962,"by amending section 16 (MCL 408.336). Representative Albert and Cory Sandwick, from Caledonia, Michigan, testified in support of the bills. Questions and discussion followed. Frank Waters and Becky Jones, representing the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, testified in support of the bills. Questions and discussion followed Mickey MacWilliams, representing the Michigan Snow Sports Industries Association, testified in support of House Bill No. 4652. Questions and discussion followed. The Michigan Association of Fairs and Exhibitions submitted a card in support of House Bill No. 4584 and House Bill No. 4585, but did not wish to speak. The Michigan Association of Fairs and Exhibitions submitted a card with a neutral position on House Bill No. 4586, but did not wish to speak.
