Whereas, The Autistic Self Advocacy Network emphasizes that acceptance—rather than mere awareness—is essential to ensuring that individuals with autism are valued, included, and supported in all aspects of society; and Whereas, Individuals with autism, along with their families, caregivers, educators, and advocates, work tirelessly to overcome challenges and build supportive environments that allow all people to thrive; and Whereas, Increased public awareness and acceptance of autism helps reduce stigma, improve access to services, and foster a more inclusive society for all residents of Michigan; and Whereas, The observance of Autism Acceptance Day provides an opportunity to celebrate neurodiversity, uplift the voices of individuals with autism, and reaffirm our commitment to equity and inclusion; now, therefore, be it Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare April 23, 2026, as Autism Acceptance Day in the state of Michigan; and be it further Resolved, That we encourage all residents of this state to recognize this day by promoting acceptance, inclusion, and understanding of individuals with autism and their families.
