- Motions and Communications Senator Lauwers moved that the Committee on Appropriations be discharged from further consideration of the following bill: Senate Bill No. 1005, entitled A bill to amend 1979 PA 94, entitled “The state school aid act of 1979,” by amending sections 11 and 31aa (MCL 388.1611 and 388.1631aa), as amended by 2024 PA 120. The question being on the motion to discharge the Committee on Appropriations from further consideration of the bill, Point of Order Senator Singh raised the Point of Order that on a discharge, a member can only talk about the reason for the discharge and not the content of the bill. The President pro tempore, Senator Moss, ruled that the point is noted and well taken and members who wish to debate the motion can only debate it on the merits of the discharge motion and not the content of the legislation. The question being on the motion to discharge the Committee on Appropriations from further consideration of the bill, Senator Lauwers requested the yeas and nays. The yeas and nays were ordered, 1/5 of the members present voting therefor. The motion did not prevail, a majority of the members serving not voting therefor, as follows:
