- Whereas, On March 7, 2021, President Joe Biden signed an executive order that unnecessarily expands the federal government’s role in voter registration activities that are best handled by states and wrongly directs federal resources into other election matters; and Whereas, Election reform efforts should focus on ensuring that the system is safe, secure, and fair. Citizens deserve to know that the outcome of elections are free from fraud and irregularities; now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate, That we urge the United States Congress and the President of the United States to oppose H.R. 1 and similar harmful election policy measures; and be it further Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to the President of the United States, the President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, and the members of the Michigan congressional delegation. Pending the order that, under rule 3.204, the resolution be referred to the Committee on Government Operations, Senator Lauwers moved that the rule be suspended. The motion prevailed, a majority of the members serving voting therefor. The question being on the adoption of the resolution, The resolution was not adopted.
