Representative Sheppard moved to adopt the meeting minutes from February 26, 2019 There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4118 before the committee: HB 4118 (Rep. Slagh) A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled “Michigan vehicle code,” by amending section 627 (MCL 257.627), as amended by 2016 PA 445. Representative Slagh testified in support of his bill. Chief Jon Gale, representing the Norton Shores Police Department, and Chief Matt Messer, representing the Holland Department of Public Safety, approached to testify in support of the bill. Questions and discussion followed. James Walker, National Motorists Association, testified in opposition to HB 4118. The following people submitted cards in support of the bill, but did not wish to speak: Trooper Nicole McGhee, representing the Michigan State Police. Stephanie Johnson, representing the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police. John LaMacchia, representing the Michigan Municipal League. The Chair laid the presentation from the Michigan Railroads Association before the committee. President Jon Cool, representing the Michigan Railroads Association, President John Rickoff, representing Lake State Railway Company, and United States Network Government Affairs Manager Larry Lloyd, representing Canadian National Railway, all provided a presentation regarding the railway industry. Questions and discussion followed. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair adjourned the meeting at 11:33 AM.
