- Representative O'Malley moved to adopt the meeting minutes from May 14, 2019. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. At 9:01 AM, the Chair laid the committee at ease. At 9:03 AM, the Chair called the committee back to order. The Chair laid HB 4208 before the committee: HB 4208 (Rep. Johnson) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled “The revised school code,” by amending section 1249 (MCL 380.1249), as amended by 2018 PA 235. Representative S. Johnson testified in support of HB 4208. Questions and discussion followed. The Chair laid HB 4262 before the committee: HB 4262 (Rep. Reilly) A bill to amend 1978 PA 90, entitled “Youth employment standards act,” by amending section 2 (MCL 409.102), as amended by 1996 PA 438. Representative Reilly and Mike Winter, Michigan Christian Home School Network, testified in support of HB 4262. Questions and discussion followed. The following people submitted a card in support of HB 4262, but did not wish to speak: James Muffett, representing the Citizens for Traditional Values. Dan Jarvis, representing the Michigan Family Forum. The following people submitted a card in opposition to HB 4262, but did not wish to speak: Caroline Leithen, representing the Michigan Department of Education. Jane Spitzley testified with no position on HB 4208 and HB 4262. There being no further business before the committee, Rep. Pamela Hornberger adjourned the meeting at 9:23 AM.
