Representative Howell moved to adopt the meeting minutes from June 17, 2021. There being no objections, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid SB 501 before the committee: SB 501 (Sen. Horn) A bill to amend 1936 (Ex Sess) PA 1, entitled "Michigan employment security act," by amending section 28 (MCL 421.28), as amended by 2020 PA 229. Senator Ken Horn, the bill sponsor, explained SB 501, and introduced Jennifer Llewellyn, Director of Oakland County Michigan Works and Manager of Oakland County Workforce Development, and David Q. Worthams, Director of Human Resource Policy for the Michigan Manufacturers Association, who testified in support of SB 501. Questions followed. Written testimony is attached. The following individuals submitted a card in support of SB 501, but did not wish to speak: Jacob Maas, Chief Executive Officer of West Michigan Works; Wendy Block, Vice President of Business Advocacy and Member Engagement for the Michigan Chamber of Commerce; Michael Krombeen, representing Kinexus; Zachary Morris, Executive Director for Market Van Buren; Amanda Fisher, Assistant State Director for the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) of Michigan; Amy Drumm, Vice President for Government Affairs for Michigan Retailers Association, and Peter B. Ruddell, representing the Michigan Work! agencies. Stephanie Glidden, Chief of Staff and Legislative Liaison for Michigan's Unemployment Insurance Agency submitted a card with a neutral position on SB 501, but did not wish to speak.
