- Representative Markkanen moved to adopt the meeting minutes from April 11, 2023. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid SB 161 and SB 162 before the committee: SB 161 (Sen. Geiss) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled "The revised school code," by amending sections 1526, 1531, 1531d, 1531j, and 1531k (MCL 380.1526, 380.1531, 380.1531d, 380.1531j, and 380.1531k), section 1526 as amended by 1995 PA 289, section 1531 as amended by 2018 PA 235, section 1531d as added by 2003 PA 18, and sections 1531j and 1531k as amended by 2018 PA 234. SB 162 (Sen. McCann) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled "The revised school code," by amending section 1233 (MCL 380.1233), as amended by 2021 PA 149. Jade Jordan, representing the Office of Senator Geiss, and Senator McCann testified in support of SBs 161 and 162. Questions and discussion followed. The following people submitted a card in support of SB 161 and SB 162, but did not wish to speak: Dr. David Michelson, representing the Michigan Education Association. Matthew Schueller, representing the Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators. Molly Macek, representing the Mackinac Center for Public Policy. Peter Spadafore, representing the Michigan Alliance of Student Opportunity. David Worthams, representing the Michigan Manufactures Association. Jennifer Smith, representing the Michigan Association of School Boards. Bob Kefgen, representing the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals.
