The Chair laid HB 5429 before the committee: HB 5429 (Rep. Morse) A bill to create the court-appointed special advocate program; and to prescribe the duties and responsibilities of the court-appointed special advocate program and volunteers. Representative Morse testified in support of HB 5429. Questions and discussion followed. Patty Sabin, the President and CEO of the Michigan Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), testified in support of HB 5429. Questions and discussion followed. The Chair laid HB 5384, HB 5385 and HB 5386 before the committee: HB 5384 (Rep. Roth) A bill to amend 1978 PA 454, entitled "Truth in renting act," by amending section 2 (MCL 554.632). HB 5385 (Rep. Mentzer) A bill to amend 1972 PA 348, entitled "An act to regulate relationships between landlords and tenants relative to rental agreements for rental units; to regulate the payment, repayment, use and investment of security deposits; to provide for commencement and termination inventories of rental units; to provide for termination arrangements relative to rental units; to provide for legal remedies; and to provide penalties," by amending section 1 (MCL 554.601), as amended by 1995 PA 79. HB 5386 (Rep. Breen) A bill to amend 1961 PA 236, entitled "Revised judicature act of 1961," by amending section 5714 (MCL 600.5714), as amended by 2014 PA 223. The following person submitted a card in support of HB 5384, HB 5385 and HB 5386, but did not wish to speak: Tabitha Zimny, representing the Michigan Mortgage Lenders Association.
