PAULINE WENDZEL CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, September 15, 2021 12:00 PM Ground Floor, Boji Tower, Lansing, MI The House Committee on Commerce and Tourism was called to order by Chair Wendzel. The House Committee on Commerce and Tourism was meeting jointly with the Senate Economic and Small Business Development Committee. The Clerk read the letter from the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Jason Wentworth, removing Representative Steve Marino from the Commerce and Tourism and the Local Government and Municipal Finance Committees, and appointing Representative Pauline Wendzel as Chair to the committee on Commerce and Tourism. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Wendzel, Roth, Farrington, Wakeman, Martin, Cherry, Liberati. Absent: Reps. Cambensy, Manoogian, Whitsett. Excused: Reps. Cambensy, Manoogian, Whitsett. Representatives Roth, Farrington, Cherry and Liberati joined the committee remotely. The Chair laid before the committee the Presentation on Current and Future Issues Facing the Hospitality Industry and the Unique Challenges that Persist as Other Industries Rebound. The following people testified in regard to the Current and Future Issues Facing the Hospitality Industry and the Unique Challenges that Persist as Other Industries Rebound: John McNamara, representing the Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association. Andy French, representing Aubree's Pizza. Jermaine Jackson, representing Grand Trunk Pub. Liz Ware, representing Mission Pointe. Paul Wegert, representing the Inn at St. John. Representative Wakeman moved to excuse Representatives Cambensy, Manoogian and Whitsett from the meeting. There being no objection the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The agenda summary is as follows: Testimony on current and future issues facing the hospitality industry and the unique challenges that persist as other industries rebound. The Chair called the meeting to order at 12:00 noon. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Horn, Sen.(s) VanderWall, Lauwers, Schmidt, MacDonald and McMorrow, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. VanderWall to adopt the meeting minutes from June 17, 2021. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Schmidt to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen.(s) LaSata, Geiss and Moss were excused from the meeting.
