- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON HIGHER EDUCATION REP. CAROL GLANVILLE CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, June 12, 2024 10:30 AM Room 326, House Office Building The House Committee on Higher Education was called to order by Chair Glanville. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Glanville, Rheingans, Koleszar, Scott, Byrnes, Coffia, Hill, MacDonell, Paiz, VanderWall, Paquette, Zorn, Bruck. Absent: Rep. DeSana. Excused: Rep. DeSana. Representative Koleszar moved to adopt the meeting minutes from June 5, 2024. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 5782 and HB 5783 before the committee: HB 5782 (Rep. MacDonell) A bill to amend 1986 PA 316, entitled "Michigan education trust act," by amending sections 4 and 8 (MCL 390.1424 and 390.1428), section 8 as amended by 2004 PA 388. HB 5783 (Rep. Morse) A bill to amend 2000 PA 161, entitled "Michigan education savings program act," by amending sections 2 and 16 (MCL 390.1472 and 390.1486), section 2 as amended by 2010 PA 6. Representative MacDonnell testified in support of HBs 5782 and 5783. Amanda West, representing the Michigan Department of Treasury, Diane Brewer, Executive Director of the Michigan Education Trust, and Robin Lott, Bureau Director of the Office of Postsecondary Financial Planning, testified in support of HBs 5782 and 5783. Questions and discussion followed. Representative VanderWall moved to excuse Representative DeSana from the meeting. There being no objection the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. There being no further business before the committee, Chair Glanville adjourned the meeting at 10:59 AM.
