JACK O'MALLEY CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, February 16, 2021 10:30 AM Room 519, House Office Building The House Committee on Transportation was called to order by Chair O'Malley. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. O'Malley, Eisen, Howell, Griffin, LaFave, Berman, Carra, Roth, Sneller, Clemente, Shannon, Liberati, Puri. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representatives Eisen, Howell, Griffin, LaFave, Berman, Sneller, Clemente, Shannon, and Puri attended the meeting remotely. Representative Roth moved to adopt the meeting minutes from February 9, 2021. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4026 and HB 4117 before the committee: HB 4026 (Rep. Eisen) A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled "Michigan vehicle code," by amending section 805 (MCL 257.805), as amended by 2013 PA 82. HB 4117 (Rep. Steven Johnson) A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled "Michigan vehicle code," by amending section 226 (MCL 257.226), as amended by 2020 PA 304. Representative Johnson and Representative Eisen, testified in support of HB 4026 and HB 4117. Questions and discussion followed. Matt Levin, representing the Michigan Department of State, testified in support of HB 4026 and HB 4117. Questions and discussion followed. The following people submitted a card in support of HB 4026, but did not wish to speak: Hallie Fox, representing the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. The Chair laid HB 4053 before the committee: HB 4053 (Rep. VanWoerkom) A bill to amend 2001 PA 142, entitled "Michigan memorial highway act," (MCL 250.1001 to 250.2091) by adding section 104. Marcus Keech, representing Representative VanWoerkom's office, joined by Sheriff Michael Poulin and widow of Deputy Ernest Heikkila Kris Sowles, all testified in support of HB 4053. The following people submitted a card with a neutral position on HB 4053, but did not wish to speak: Troy Hagon, representing the Michigan Department of Transportation. The Chair laid HB 4014 before the committee: HB 4014 (Rep. Slagh) A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled "Michigan vehicle code," by amending section 628 (MCL 257.628), as amended by 2016 PA 447.
