- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON FAMILIES, CHILDREN, AND SENIORS REP. RODNEY WAKEMAN CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, February 23, 2021 12:00 Noon Room 519, House Office Building The House Committee on Families, Children, and Seniors was called to order by the Chair. The Chair laid before the committee the Speaker's appointment letter. January 26, 2021 Mr. Gary L. Randall, Clerk Michigan House of Representatives State Capitol Buildings Lansing, MI 48913 Dear Mr. Clerk: I appoint the following Members of the 101st Legislature to the Standing Committees for the 2021-2022 Legislative Session: Families, Children and Seniors Reps. Wakeman (C), Wozniak (Maj. VC), Marino, Rendon, Tisdel, Pohutsky (Min. VC), Camilleri, B. Carter, Aiyash Sincerely, Jason Wentworth, Speaker Michigan House of Representatives The Chair requested attendance be called: The Clerk called the attendance and announced a quorum was present. Present: Reps. Wakeman, Wozniak, Marino, Rendon, Tisdel, Pohutsky, Camilleri, Brenda Carter, Aiyash. Absent: None. Excused: None. The Chair stated the committee would be following the Uniform Committee Rules, as stated in Chapter IV of the House Standing Rules that were adopted by the House of Representatives on Wednesday, January 13, 2021. Representative Tisdel moved to adopt Tuesday at 12:00 Noon in room 327 of the Anderson House Office Building as the day, time and location for the regular operating schedule for the committee meetings for the House Committee on Families, Children and Seniors. The motion prevailed 9-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Wakeman, Wozniak, Marino, Rendon, Tisdel, Pohutsky, Camilleri, Brenda Carter, Aiyash. Nays: None. Pass: None. The Chair explained his expectations for the committee. A copy is attached: The Chair called on each committee member to give a brief introduction about themselves. The Chair laid before the committee a presentation on the Aging and Adult Services and Agency. Dr. Alexis Travis, Senior Deputy Director of Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Aging and Adult Services and Agency (AASA), briefed the committee members on the services the agency provides seniors. Questions followed. A copy of the department's PowerPoint is attached. The Chair laid before the committee a presentation on Michigan's Area Agencies on Aging. Dr. David LaLumia, Executive Director for the Area Agencies on Aging Association of Michigan, briefed the members on the what area of agencies on aging provide. A copy of his handout is attached. Ron Taylor, President and Chief Executive Officer for the Detroit Area Agency on Aging, did an overview of Detroit's Area Agency of Aging programs. Questions followed. A copy of his PowerPoint is attached. Bob Brown, Executive Director for Region VII Area Agency on Aging in Bay City, briefed the committee on what services his agency does in his area. Due to time restraint, Edward Canfield, D.O., Medical Director, for Region VII Area Agency on Aging in Bay City, was unable to testify on the COVID services that his area provides. There being no further business before the committee, Representative Rendon moved to adjourn the committee meeting.
