- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON JUDICIARY REP. SARAH LIGHTNER CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES The House Committee on Judiciary was called to order by Chair Lightner. The Chair requested attendance to be called: Present: Reps. Lightner, BeGole, Wozniak, Harris, DeBoyer, Johnsen, Schuette, Tyrone Carter, Hope, Breen and Scott. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative Wozniak moved to adopt the meeting minutes from April 30, 2025. There being no objection, the motion prevailed with unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4397 before the committee: Chair Lightner testified in support of HB 4397. Judge Esther Salas, representing the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, testified in support of HB 4397. Questions and discussions followed. Judge David McKeague, representing the U.S. Court of Appeal for the Sixth Circuit, testified in support of HB 4397. Questions and discussions followed. Nathan Triplett, representing the State Bar of Michigan, testified in support of HB 4397. Questions and discussions followed. Wednesday, May 7, 2025 10:30 AM Room 521, House Office Building HB 4397 (Rep. Lightner) A bill to protect the safety of judges and certain other individuals; to protect certain information of judges and certain other individuals from disclosure; to provide for the powers and duties of certain state and local governmental officers and certain other people and entities; and to provide remedies. Brad Dorland, representing the Veterans Justice, testified in opposition to HB 4397. The following people submitted a card in support of HB 4397, but did not wish to speak: Nate Love, representing the Consumer Data Industry Association. Brandon Krause, President, representing the Michigan Association of Registers of Deeds. Nicole Rodriquez, representing the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan.
