- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON FAMILIES, CHILDREN, AND SENIORS REP. RODNEY WAKEMAN CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, March 10, 2021 10:30 a.m. Room 519, House Office Building The House Committee on Families, Children, and Seniors was called to order by the Chair. At 9:33 a.m., the Chair went at ease at the call of the Chair. At 9:35 a.m., the Chair reconvened the Committee. The Chair requested attendance be called. The Clerk called the attendance and announced a quorum was present. Present: Reps. Wakeman, Wozniak, Marino, Rendon, Tisdel, Pohutsky, Camilleri, Brenda Carter, Aiyash. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative Rendon moved to adopt the meeting minutes from March 2, 2021. There being no objections, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4325 before the committee: HB 4325 (Rep. Hall) A bill to amend 1981 PA 180, entitled "Older Michiganians act," (MCL 400.581 to 400.594) by adding section 6l. Representative Wozniak moved to report out HB 4325 with recommendation, as substitute (H-1). The motion prevailed 9-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Wakeman, Wozniak, Marino, Rendon, Tisdel, Pohutsky, Camilleri, Brenda Carter, Aiyash. Nays: None. Pass: None. The Chair laid HB 4071 and HB 4072 before the committee: HB 4071 (Rep. Kahle) A bill to amend 1931 PA 328, entitled "The Michigan penal code," by amending section 136b (MCL 750.136b), as amended by 2020 PA 49. HB 4072 (Rep. Calley) A bill to amend 1927 PA 175, entitled "The code of criminal procedure," by amending section 16g of chapter XVII (MCL 777.16g), as amended by 2020 PA 50. Representative Bronna Kahle, bill sponsor for HB 4071, explained the bill package and introduced Jennifer LaFrate and Angela J. Borders, Chief Assistant Prosecutor for Lenawee County, who testified in support of HB 4071 and HB 4072. Questions and discussion followed. Representative Bronna Kahle read a letter from Megan VanEtten in support of HB 4071 and HB 4072. A copy of the letter is attached. Amy Zaagman, Executive Director for Michigan Council for Maternal and Child Health, submitted a testimony card in support of HB 4071 and HB 4072, but did not wish to speak. There being no further business before the committee; Representative Rendon moved that the committee adjourn.
