- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON MILITARY, VETERANS AND HOMELAND SECURITY REP. BEAU MATTHEW LAFAVE CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, March 16, 2021 12:00 PM Room 521, House Office Building The House Committee on Military, Veterans and Homeland Security was called to order by Chair LaFave. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. LaFave, Beeler, Eisen, Bezotte, Martin, Jones, Coleman, Rogers, Steenland. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative Jones moved to adopt the meeting minutes from March 10, 2021. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4058 before the committee: HB 4058 (Rep. Steven Johnson) A bill to amend 1967 PA 150, entitled "Michigan military act," (MCL 32.501 to 32.851) by adding section 203. Representative Johnson introduced the bill. Questions and discussion followed. Fred Schaible, representing the Michigan Department of Military and Veteran Affairs, testified in opposition to HB 4058. Questions and discussion followed. Tony Demott, representing the Michigan Campaign for Liberty, testified in support of HB 4058. Dan McKnight, representing Bring Our Troops Home, testified in support of HB 4058. David Dudenhofer testified in support of HB 4058. The Chair laid SB 10 before the committee: SB 10 (Sen. Theis) A bill to amend 1976 PA 267, entitled "Open meetings act," by amending section 8 (MCL 15.268), as amended by 2018 PA 467. Meghan Reckling, representing the Office of Senator Theis, testified on the bill. Questions and disussion followed. Joseph Riker, representing the Livingston County Veteran's Committee, testified in support of SB 10. Questions and discussion followed. The following people submitted a card in support of SB 10, but did not wish to speak: Fred Schaible, representing the Michigan Department of Military and Veteran Affairs. Meghann Keit-Corrion, representing the Michigan Association of Counties. There being no further business before the committee, Rep. Beau LaFave adjourned the meeting at 12:41 PM.
