HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON INSURANCE REP. DAIRE RENDON CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Thursday, March 18, 2021 8:30 AM Room 352, House Appropriations, State Capitol Building The House Committee on Insurance was called to order by Chair Rendon. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Rendon, Berman, Kahle, LaFave, Hall, Meerman, Bezotte, Clements, Posthumus, Tisdel, Brenda Carter, Anthony, Bolden, Coleman, Stone, Breen, Steenland. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative Brenda Carter moved to adopt the meeting minutes from March 11, 2021. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4354 before the committee: HB 4354 (Rep. Rendon) A bill to amend 1956 PA 218, entitled "The insurance code of 1956," (MCL 500.100 to 500.8302) by adding section 3406v. The Chair discussed her proposed (H-1) substitute to HB 4354. Representative Berman moved to adopt substitute (H-1) to HB 4354. The motion prevailed 14-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Rendon, Berman, Kahle, Meerman, Bezotte, Clements, Posthumus, Tisdel, Brenda Carter, Anthony, Bolden, Coleman, Stone, Steenland. Nays: None. Pass: None. Representative Steckloff, testified in support of HB 4354. Questions and discussion followed. Mary Groll Brown, an oral chemotherapy patient, testified in support of HB 4354. Questions and discussion followed. Dr. Jerome Seid and Cathy Patterson R.N., both representing the Michigan Society of Hematology and Oncology, testified in support of HB 4354. Questions and discussion followed. Dr. Anas Al-Janadi, President of the Michigan Society of Hematology and Oncology, testified in support of HB 4354. Questions and discussion followed. The following people submitted a card in support of HB 4354, but did not wish to speak: Mary Kay MaKarewicz, representing the Michigan Society of Hematology and Oncology. Andrew Schepers, representing the American Cancer Society- Cancer Action Network. The following people submitted a card in opposition to HB 4354, but did not wish to speak: Dave Worthams, representing the Michigan Manufacturers Association. Bret Jackson, representing the Economic Alliance for Michigan. Representative Brenda Carter moved to report out HB 4354 with recommendation, as substitute (H-1). The motion prevailed 14-3-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Rendon, Berman, Kahle, LaFave, Bezotte, Clements, Tisdel, Brenda Carter, Anthony, Bolden, Coleman, Stone, Breen, Steenland. Nays: Reps.
