- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON NATURAL RESOURCES AND OUTDOOR RECREATION REP. GARY HOWELL CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Thursday, April 15, 2021 10:30 AM Room 307, House Office Building The House Committee on Natural Resources and Outdoor Recreation was called to order by Chair Howell. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Howell, Markkanen, LaFave, Eisen, Wakeman, Sowerby, Cambensy. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representatives Marino and Aiyash joined the committee meeting remotely. Representative LaFave moved to adopt the meeting minutes from March 25, 2021. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid SCR 6 before the committee: SCR 6 (Sen. McBroom) A concurrent resolution to urge the Natural Resources Commission and the Department of Natural Resources to end the research study begun in 2019 concerning the effectiveness of antler point restrictions as a management tool in the chronic wasting disease core area. Senator McBroom testified in support of SCR 6. Questions and discussion followed. Jim Sweeney, representing Concerned Sportsmen of Michigan, testified in support of SCR 6. Questions and discussion followed. The Chair laid before the committee a presentation by Doug Roberts, President, United Deer Farmers of Michigan. Questions and discussion followed. The Chair laid before the committee a presentation by Erik Schnelle, President, Michigan Advisory Council of the National Deer Association. He was joined by Josh Hillyard, Assistant Director of Grass Roots; Torin Miller, Director of Policy; and Kip Adams, Chief Conservation Officer. Questions and discussion followed.
