- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON WORKFORCE, TRADES, AND TALENT REP. BETH GRIFFIN CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Thursday, April 15, 2021 9:00 a.m. Room 519, House Office Building The House Committee on Workforce, Trades, and Talent was called to order by the Chair. The Chair requested attendance be called. The Clerk called the attendance and a quorum was present. Present: Reps. Griffin, Martin, Howell, Farrington, Eisen, Markkanen, Sabo, O'Neal. Absent: Rep. Hope. Excused: Rep. Hope. Representative Howell moved to adopt the meeting minutes from March 18, 2021. There being no objections, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. Representative Sabo moved to excuse Representative Hope from the meeting. There being no objections the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid before the committee a presentation given by the Home Builders Association of Michigan and the Housing Michigan Coalition Executive Committee. Dawn Crandall, Political Affairs Director for the Home Builders Association of Michigan, did a PowerPoint report on Michigan's housing shortage. Joshua Lunger, Senior Director of Government Affairs for the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce, joined Dawn by updating the committee on Grand Rapids current housing situation. Kent Wood with Borealis Strategic, LLC representing, Housing Next/Housing North, addressed the housing issues in the Traverse City region. Questions followed. A copy of the PowerPoint is attached. Jennifer Rigterink, Legislative Associate for the Michigan Municipal League, testified via zoom representing city government regarding this housing concern. Questions followed. There being no further business before the committee; Representative Martin moved that the committee adjourn.
