HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON WORKFORCE, TRADES, AND TALENT REP. BETH GRIFFIN CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Thursday, April 29, 2021 9:00 a.m. Room 519, House Office Building The House Committee on Workforce, Trades, and Talent was called to order by the Chair. The Chair requested attendance be called. The Clerk called the attendance and a quorum was present. Present: Reps. Griffin, Martin, Howell, Farrington, Eisen, Hope. Absent: Rep. Markkanen. Excused: Rep. Markkanen. Representatives Sabo and O'Neal joined the committee remotely. Representative Hope moved to adopt the meeting minutes from April 22, 2021. There being no objections, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4125 before the committee: HB 4125 (Rep. Howell) A bill to amend 2016 PA 407, entitled "Skilled trades regulation act," by amending sections 701 and 737 (MCL 339.5701 and 339.5737), section 701 as amended by 2018 PA 151. Rep. Howell, the bill sponsor, explained the bill. A question followed. The following individuals testified in support of HB 4125: Jimmy Greene, President and Chief Executive Officer of ABC of Michigan; Evan Allardyce, Business Manager and Financial Secretary for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local IBEW local 557 in Saginaw; James Harrison, Director of Renewable Energy for the Utility Workers of America; and Greg Remington, Business Manager and Financial Secretary for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 948 in Flint. The following individuals submitted a card in support of HB 4125, but did not wish to speak: Katie Abraham, Executive Director of the Michigan Municipal Electric Association, and Winston Feeheley, Manager of Corporate and Governmental Affairs and Legislative Advocate for DTE Energy. Representative Hope moved to excuse Representative Markkanen from the meeting. There being no objections the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. There being no further business before the committee; Representative Hope moved that the committee adjourn.
