HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON COMMERCE AND TOURISM REP. STEVE MARINO CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, May 11, 2021 9:00 AM Room 327, House Office Building The House Committee on Commerce and Tourism was called to order by Chair Marino. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Marino, Roth, Farrington, Wakeman, Wendzel, Martin, Cambensy, Cherry, Manoogian, Liberati. Absent: Rep. Whitsett. Excused: Rep. Whitsett. Representative Farrington moved to adopt the meeting minutes from May 4, 2021. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4729, HB 4730, HB 4731 and HB 4732 before the committee: HB 4729 (Rep. Cherry) A bill to amend 1875 PA 54, entitled "An act to facilitate the inspection and reproduction of the records and files in the offices of the registers of deeds," by amending section 1 (MCL 565.551), as amended by 2007 PA 58. HB 4730 (Rep. Calley) A bill to amend 1895 PA 161, entitled "An act to require county treasurers to furnish transcripts and abstracts of records, and fixing the fees to be paid therefor," by amending section 1 (MCL 48.101), as amended by 2015 PA 39. HB 4731 (Rep. Manoogian) A bill to amend 1996 PA 462, entitled "Enhanced access to public records act," by amending section 3 (MCL 15.443), as amended by 1998 PA 550. HB 4732 (Rep. Marino) A bill to amend 1961 PA 236, entitled "Revised judicature act of 1961," by amending section 2567 (MCL 600.2567), as amended by 2016 PA 224. Representative Cherry, testified in support of HB 4729, HB 4730, HB 4731 and HB 4732. Representative Calley, testified in support of HB 4729, HB 4730, HB 4731 and HB 4732. Representative Manoogian, testified in support of HB 4729, HB 4730, HB 4731 and HB 4732. Luke Bell, representing Zillow, testified in support of HB 4729, HB 4730, HB 4731 and HB 4732. Stu Sanders and Branden Denby, representing the Michigan Association of Registers of Deeds, testified in opposition to HB 4729, HB 4730, HB 4731 and HB 4732. Michelle Stevenson, Clerk and Register of Deeds of Roscommon County. Amy Bissell, representing Benzie County. Steve Liedel, representing the Michigan Association of County Treasurers. Dave Coulter, Oakland County Executive. Representative Cambensy moved to excuse Representative Whitsett from the meeting. There being no objection the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. There being no further business before the committee, Representative Cherry moved to adjourn the Committee. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent.
