- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON HEALTH POLICY REP. BRONNA KAHLE CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Thursday, May 13, 2021 11:00 AM Room 352, House Appropriations, State Capitol Building The House Committee on Health Policy was called to order by Chair Kahle. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Kahle, Meerman, Whiteford, Alexander, Allor, Hauck, Filler, Mueller, Beeler, Fink, Roth, Tisdel, Witwer, Clemente, Pohutsky, Stone, Whitsett, Morse. Absent: Rep. Neeley. Excused: Rep. Neeley. Representative Witwer moved to adopt the meeting minutes from May 6, 2021. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4654 before the committee: HB 4654 (Rep. Clemente) A bill to amend 1978 PA 368, entitled "Public health code," (MCL 333.1101 to 333.25211) by adding sections 5135 and 5135a. Representative Clemente and Laura Bonnell, representing the National Organization of Rare Disorders, testified in support of HB 4654. Questions and discussion followed. Annissa Reed, representing the National Organization of Rare Disorders, testified in support of HB 4654. Dr. Wanda Shurney, representing Sickle Cell of Michigan, testified in support of HB 4654. Kelly Waters, National Homocystinuria Representative with Patients and Providers for Medical Nutrition Equality Coalition, testified in support of HB 4654. Gabe Basso, representing Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, testified in support of HB 4654. Questions and discussion followed. Chair Kahle laid before the committee a presentation on pregnancy and adoption resources. Stephanie Busch, representing the Catholic Charities of West Michigan; Ani Blickley, representing The Lighthouse for Teen Moms in Grand Rapids; and Jim Sprague, representing the Pregnancy Resources Center in Grand Rapids, gave a presentation to the committee. Questions and discussion followed. At 11:55 AM, the Chair handed the gavel over to the Majority Vice Chair Meerman. Representative Witwer moved to excuse Representative Neeley from the meeting. There being no objection the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. There being no further business before the committee, Majority Vice Chair Meerman adjourned the meeting at 12:00 PM.
