JULIE ALEXANDER CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, May 19, 2021 10:30 AM Room 326, House Office Building The House Committee on Agriculture was called to order by Chair Alexander. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Alexander, Posthumus, Bellino, Rendon, Filler, Carra, Garza, Cambensy, Hope, Witwer, Puri. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative Filler moved to adopt the meeting minutes from May 12, 2021. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4550 before the committee: HB 4550 (Rep. Posthumus) A bill to amend 1961 PA 236, entitled "Revised judicature act of 1961," by amending section 1335 (MCL 600.1335), as amended by 2014 PA 10. Representative Posthumus, testified in support of HB 4550. Questions and discussion followed. Samantha Krhovsky, representing the Michigan Soybean Association, testified in support of HB 4550. Questions and discussion followed. The following people submitted a card in support of HB 4550, but did not wish to speak: Maureen Watson-Bolger, representing Michigan Corn Growers. Jim Zook, representing Michigan Corn Growers. Tony Des Chenes, representing Potato Growers of Michigan. The Chair laid HB 4823 and HB 4824 before the committee: HB 4823 (Rep. Alexander) A bill to amend 2019 PA 152, entitled "Lawful internet gaming act," by amending section 15 (MCL 432.315). HB 4824 (Rep. Hertel) A bill to amend 2019 PA 149, entitled "Lawful sports betting act," by amending section 15 (MCL 432.415). Bee Friedlander, representing Attorneys for Animals, testified in opposition to HB 4823 and HB 4824. Questions and discussion followed. Representative Rendon moved to report out HB 4823 with recommendation. The motion prevailed 8-3-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Alexander, Posthumus, Bellino, Rendon, Filler, Garza, Cambensy, Witwer. Nays: Reps. Carra, Hope, Puri. Pass: None. Representative Bellino moved to report out HB 4824 with recommendation. The following people submitted a card in support of HB 4823 and HB 4824, but did not wish to speak: Rebecca Park, representing the Michigan Farm Bureau. The Chair laid the presentation on the 2021 4-H Program before the committee. Jake DeDecker, representing Michigan 4-H Youth Development, provided a presentation on the 2021 4-H Youth Program. Questions and discussion followed. There being no further business before the committee, Rep. Julie Alexander adjourned the meeting at 11:10 AM.
