CALLEY CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, June 9, 2021 12:00 PM Room 519, House Office Building The House Committee on Local Government and Municipal Finance was called to order by Chair Calley. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Calley, Bezotte, Howell, Alexander, Bellino, Marino, Berman, Paquette, Ellison, Sowerby, Garza, Kuppa, Cavanagh. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative Paquette joined the committee remotely. Representative Bellino moved to adopt the meeting minutes from June 2, 2021. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4833 and HB 4834 before the committee: HB 4833 (Rep. Ellison) A bill to provide for the exemption of certain property from certain taxes; to levy and collect a specific tax upon the owners of certain property; to provide for the disposition of that specific tax; to provide for the powers and duties of certain state and local governmental officers and entities; and to provide penalties. HB 4834 (Rep. Tisdel) A bill to amend 1893 PA 206, entitled "The general property tax act," (MCL 211.1 to 211.155) by adding section 9p. Representative Tisdale and Representative Ellison testified in support of HB 4833 and HB 4834. Paul Connors, representing the Department of Treasury, testified with a neutral position on HB 4833 and HB 4834. Questions and discussion followed. Lance Binoniemi, representing the Michigan Insfastructure and Transportation Association, testified in opposition to HB 4833 and HB 4834. Questions and discussion followed. Joe Crosby, representing the American Rental Association, testified in support of HB 4833 and HB 4834. Questions and discussion followed.
